Do you have any plans for this character in the game? Compared to Ruka, I’m planning on taking a more serious approach with Mei. She’s inquisitive, often tries to pry into things, and will want to learn more and more about the world itself.

Did your character willingly come to Iyashikei? If yes, why? As much as Mei contends with a world that’s on the verge of being invaded by another outside threat, she’s a genuinely good-hearted woman that does her Sunday best to help those in need. So yes, it’s only natural that she’d make the effort to help.
Will they need any special accommodations upon arrival? Nope!
Character's History: Link; though somewhat incomplete, this covers all the immediately relevant segments of Arc 1. Mei’s most relevant history, however, is in Arc 2, as well as the Post-Honkai Odyssey Open World. This is not adequately covered in the wiki and will, as such, be covered in this app.

6 years after the end of the Great Honkai War, Mei heads to the Moon after getting word that Kiana Kaslana, a very precious person to her, has fallen into a coma. She encounters the Dreamseeker, a digital avatar with her own personality and the key to resolving Kiana’s coma, and monitors the situation with her usual meticulous care.

2 years after the Mars Incident, Raiden Mei leads Anti-Honkai Squad 3 into St. Fountain on a mission to locate and return VIPs of Schicksal Welt Yang and Welt Joyce to safety. The latter two’s disappearance causes confusion, as they had clearly been tracked until their entry into the city — and it only becomes more apparent that things are not what they seem. St. Fountain is bereft of life, a stark contrast to how the city had been prior to this incident.

As she investigates, she helps one particular member of her squad (henceforth referred to as Adam, as he is namable at the outset of the Open World) get used to life as an active fighter on the frontlines.

Another squad member, Carole Pepper, eventually reunites with them after having been separated at the outset of the investigation in St. Fountain, and with her skills in reconnaissance, she makes scouring the area significantly easier.

Eventually, both Joyce and Welt are found — though the latter actually makes an appearance to rescue her squadmates. Mei jokingly points out in a conversation after this that he tends to steal the show.

As soon as they secure an escape route from St. Fountain, Mei, Adam and Carole set off to the Arcane Castle, an ominous red structure that looms over the city. In it, they end up facing off against someone that they find recordings of during their investigation: originally thought to be Otto Apocalypse, it actually turns out to be his Divine Key (an artifact of great power), Void Archives, who has stolen one of Otto’s remaining Soulium bodies for his purposes. Void Archives sics a powerful minion of the “Sky People” (a force preparing to invade the Earth) on them, and Mei is gravely injured after a harsh struggle, forcing Adam to act. He disengages the limiters on his weapon, and he destroys the minion at the cost of significantly accelerating his corruption by Honkai energy.

In Part 2, Mei is later escorted out of St. Fountain by Carole to recover from her injuries, and is not seen until much later, when she returns to finish what she started. Her reunion with her squad is compounded by the presence of long-time friend Bronya Zaychik, who brought Anti-Honkai Squad 2 into the fray to support her, Adam and Carole, as well as her utilization of the Moon Ring, a tool developed to aid the squads in fulfilling their mission.

The combined forces of Squad 2 and Squad 3 manage to forge a path to the Arcane Castle; as it fires an ominous signal into the sky, they prepare for another stand-off with Void Archives, who most assuredly awaits within. After fighting through the denizens of the castle floating in the sky, they confront Void Archives at its depths, and Mei personally deals an avenging blow to him for what happened in APHO Chapter 1. This damages the mask Void Archives was wearing; ultimately, though, it isn’t Mei that seemingly finishes him off, but Lucheni, an oft-referred to cohort of Void Archives’.

Lucheni turns out to be a massive, fortress-like monster lurking in another dimension. Both squads coordinate their efforts to bring it down; while initially unsuccessful, the aid of Void Archives, who turns out to be within Lucheni’s ‘inner space’, allows them to fully manifest the power of the Moon Rings and take down Lucheni.

However, as they escape and return to an area within reach of Arcane Castle, they find that their battle is far from over, as a massive gate opens over the skies of St. Fountain… and Theresa Apocalypse, a major official of Schicksal, decides that it’s time for her to join those on the frontlines.

1. Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them. How would your character act once someone got to know them?
At first glance, Mei is the sort of woman that would be easy to look up to; she’s pretty, an attentive listener, and often commands the attention of others without really trying to. She is unmistakably the Yamato Nadeshiko, in this respect. However, once she finds herself comfortable with someone, and can draw them closer to her inner circle, Mei can be surprisingly teasing if she finds the opportunity to, and can be much firmer than her kind exterior can let on. In this sense, she can be surprisingly vindictive for someone who adheres to the Yamato Nadeshiko standard… but ultimately, a lot of those first impressions still apply on some level. They’re just balanced out by her willingness to be herself.
2. What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?
Mei is a principal — the current one of St. Freya, after previous principal Theresa Apocalypse passed the work on to her. This is combined with her leadership of an Anti-Honkai Squad, making her one of the most potent protectors of the flawed yet beautiful world she fights for.
3. What does your character think their flaws are? What do they think their strengths are? What are their actual flaws and strengths?
At this particular time of her life, Mei does worry that she’s still too kind for her own good; it’s only natural, when she’d been taken advantage of before, and hesitated multiple times over the course of the Great Honkai War when she shouldn’t have. However, she believes in her strength of heart and her willingness to extend a helping hand to those around her. These flaws and strengths align with how she actually handles herself; however, there is one other that still lingers: Mei can come off just like the self-sacrificing Kaslanas at points, especially when people that are important to her in some way are threatened. This same willingness to stand up for those around her was what got her injured in APHO Chapter 1, as she stood between her understudies and Void Archives, only to be shackled by the Oath of Judah, a Divine Key made to restrain Herrschers.
4. What is a common misconception other characters have about your character?
It’s easy to think that Mei’s kindness means she’s a bit of a pushover, and willing to bend for those that ask nicely — and if this was the Mei of years ago, that would have been true. However, Adam learns the hard way that this is not the case when he learns of the strict remedial work she puts Carole to, and even comes face to face with her quiet wrath should he call her ‘Aunt Mei’.

Raiden Mei, as of her canonpoint, is the former Herrscher of Thunder; this brings with it the power to control lightning, and even though it’s fairly weak compared to when she was at her prime, she can still shape her lightning into clones, use it to strike her enemies, and even unleash birds made purely of her element to cleave a path open for her peers. This is combined with her finely honed command over martial arts, from hand to hand combat to swordsmanship; Mei’s weapon of choice is a katana, and such a weapon is where she channels much of her remaining power through if she isn’t wielding it herself. However, she’s also just as capable of fighting barehanded, as pivotal scenes in Chapter 17 show her striking at Kiana with fisticuffs and kicks.
Moon Ring
A special utility granted to Anti-Honkai Squads 2 and 3 in response to the situation in St. Fountain escalating. Functioning as the means to even the odds against the ever growing variety of monsters lurking in False Bay and St. Fountain proper, it comes with the ability to augment Mei’s fighting capacity in a pinch, and converts Honkai energy into general-purpose energy. When activated, this augmented fighting strength manifests as the White Heat — distorting the color of the area around her. The Moon Ring is also equipped with a grappling hook function, allowing her to participate in rescue operations that require more delicate care.
